ABOUT THE ARTIST

Katherine Farris began painting in the early 1980s when her friend and fellow painter, Denise Ireland, began an informal painting class. In those days, Katherine was working at Owl Magazine, writing science and nature articles for kids, and freelancing. But the world works in mysterious ways. And those early days of painting in Denise’s basement one night a week, have led to a life as a full-time painter.

In addition to still life and gardenscape paintings, Katherine has recently done a series of paintings of chairs. These chair paintings became part of an art show and auction, which also featured hand-painted chairs done by 98 other artists. The proceeds from this fund-raiser were donated to the Shirley A. Brown Memorial Chair in Women’s Mental Health Research.

While Katherine continues to work on garden and still life paintings, birds and animals have usurped the chairs. Commissions on request.
